Tourism Policy in Peru
In 1993 Peru Government created “Promperu” (Peru Tourism and Export Promotion Commission) In order to promote tourism as one of the tree most important income sectors in Peru’s GDP.
The Peruvian Ministry of Trade and Tourism has developed a “National Tourism Strategy 2008-2018” as a national fram/ework for the develop of tourism sector.
You could find the strategy in this link: http://www.mincetur.gob.pe/newweb/Portals/0/PENTUR%20FINAL%20septiembre%20(2)%20(4).pdf
Which sector of the travel industry needs more attention.
In the case of Peru there are two main challenges:
- Develop more coordination between national agencies related to the tourism promotion (national government, regional and local governments) and regional and local capacities.
- Some destinies requires infrastructure development (roads, lodgement, basic services).

Major steps taken by you to promote Peru as tourist destination in India.
I have only two weeks in my new post but, following the embassy work in tourism promotion, we will continue to participate in tourism festivals, fairs and cultural events in India and continue to promote new relationships with travel agencies. Promperu is also exploring the possibility to make a road show the next year in India.
Which are the present challenges of this sector worldwide
I think the main challenge is to find the balance between tourism development and environment preservation: how to develop a sustainable tourism. There also other important challenges like the effects of both terrorism and transnational crime on tourism (security), the effects of natural disasters or the necessity to increase connectivity and facilities to new destinies.
Is Travel Trade World the right platform for promotion of this sector.
I think Travel Trade World is a good platform to promote the tourism industry. I can visit and explore the web page and find it very useful, specially because TTW gather together inputs from travel agencies, official tourism agencies and visitors opinions and experiences that will be very useful to develop the tourism industry.
